HIP HIP HOORAY

Many happy returns to Waltham Forest resident Grace Chandler who turned104 years old this month.

Grace, a resident at the Council’s George Mason Lodge, said the recipe for her long life is ‘good clean living, no smoking, no drinking and no eating between meals. You need to eat sensibly and have plenty of exercise’.

Grace, who was born on 5th April 1910, became the ultimate silver surfer after taking part in the Council’s multi-media project which launched last year. She now has tens of thousands of Facebook fans and regularly Skype’s her niece thanks to the equipment she learnt to use.

Last year she became an online celebrity due to her support for the Innocent Big Knit campaign. A photo of the hats she made was posted on Facebook and she amassed 42,000 likes in less than 48 hours. To celebrate her milestone birthday Innocent this week sent a crate of her favourite smoothies.

Her passion for knitting also helped raise awareness of the Council’s Close Knit Family adoption campaign.

Councillor Angie Bean, Cabinet Member for Adult Services, said: “Grace is a truly inspirational woman and is proof that it doesn’t matter how old you are, there’s so much that the digital age has to offer. Congratulations on your milestone birthday Grace.”
