103 year old is knitting her way to online stardom

103 year old Grace Chandler from Waltham Forest, east London, is fast becoming an online celebrity due to her support for the Innocent Big Knit campaign.

Grace, who was born on 5th April 1910, has knitted 65 hats after seeing the Big Knit advertised on TV. Grace decided she wanted to be part of the campaign as she thought that it was a very good cause as Innocent will be donating to Age UK.

A photo of Grace and her hats were tweeted online at10:48am on Tuesday 29 Oct and amassed over 42,000 likes on facebook, over 2,000 shares, over 400 retweets and over 400 favourites in less than 48 hours.

Grace learnt how to use an ipod and became interested in using computers. She then took part in a multi-media project run London Borough Waltham Forest Council. Grace is now on twitter herself and skypes her nieces who are so proud of her new found celebrity status.

Grace said of the online response: “I just can’t believe it, all this from knitting a few little hats.”
