Pizza Express makes the four seasons at the Scene

Pizza Express has joined Nando’s, Yum Yum and Turtle Bay to become the fourth restaurant to sign up for a unit at The Scene at Cleveland Place. The popular Italian chain will add to the flavours of Portugal, Thailand and the Caribbean when the new Empire cinema complex opens in the heart of Walthamstow later this year.

Council Leader Chris Robbins said, “I’m sure local residents will be as delighted as I am that such a wide array of top restaurants will be on offer at The Scene at Cleveland Place.

“I know people are excited at the prospect of finally being able to go to the cinema in the borough very soon, and I am sure many will now factor in a pizza or one of the other options as part of their night out too.”

The Scene at Cleveland Place is a £30m regeneration project centring around a nine screen digital cinema capable of seating over 1,000 film-goers. It also includes 121 homes and five commercial spaces.

The scheme is just one element of the Council’s ‘Creating a better place to live’ campaign that is committed to doing more to improve the borough’s streets, enhance Waltham Forest’s schools and provide better leisure facilities.

Walthamstow town centre is going through a particularly significant transformation with The Scene at Cleveland Place occupying the old Arcade site that had sat empty for a decade. The borough has been without a cinema for the last ten years too and the arrival of a new picture house has been top of many residents’ wish lists.

Close by, next to Walthamstow Central train station, the £22million hotel and housing development is also nearing completion, bringing a 107 room Travelodge hotel and five new retail units as well as 34 brand new, one and two-bedroom residential apartments.

Further down Selborne Walk a £90m development has received planning permission. This will see a new Morrisons supermarket built along with 245 new homes and three non-food retail units. The development is predicted to create around 450 new jobs, 300 within the new supermarket. It is anticipated that up to three-quarters of the jobs will go to local people.
