An important milestone was reached today (14 July) when Empire Cinemas took their place on the site ready to begin their fit-out of the new nine-screen multiplex at The Scene at Cleveland Place.

Leader of Waltham Forest Council Chris Robbins was joined on site by various partners as he handed over the cinema to Empire’s Chief Executive, Justin Ribbons. Empire Cinemas can now get to work fitting out the state-of-the-art nine screen cinema in time for the grand opening in November.

The news comes just days after Pizza Express signed up to be part of The Scene alongside Nandos and Turtle Bay. Thai restaurant Yum Yum is also on board and above the cinema and retail units the construction of 121 new homes are well under way.

“The formal handover to Empire Cinemas is a big moment and is a timely reminder that we are now less than six months away from welcoming visitors from across the borough to this amazing new destination,” said Chris Robbins.

Justin Ribbons, Chief Executive of Empire Cinemas, said, “We are thrilled to have reached this important milestone which will ultimately see the return of the silver screen to Walthamstow for the first time in more than a decade.”

The £30m regeneration project is just one element of the Council’s ‘Creating a better place to live’ campaign that is committed to doing more to improve the borough’s streets, enhance Waltham Forest’s schools and provide better leisure facilities.
