Leyton gym re-launches to offere the perfect fix for fitness enthusiasts

Leyton gym in Waltham Forest has officially re-launched last week following a £200,000 refurbishment programme. The gym, which is run by social enterprise Better, on behalf of the Council, now extends across two floors and provides customers with brand new state-of-the-art gym equipment and a functional fitness area.

Female members can now enjoy new women-only gym sessions to complement the well-attended women-only swimming lessons across the road at Leyton Leisure Centre, which have proved to be a great success.

To celebrate the re-opening, Olympic long-jumper Jade Johnson popped down. “This is a fantastic facility which will allow more local people to get more active more often,” she said.

Jade was joined by Chris Robbins, Leader of Waltham Forest Council who said: “We’re investing £24.5million in improving our leisure centres as part of our better place scheme so that residents have the best facilities available.

“We know that having access to first-class leisure centres will help residents improve and maintain their physical and emotional health and wellbeing, and help to create the next generation of sporting talent.”

Members can now enjoy a spacious weights area, fully refurbished changing rooms and a packed timetable featuring everything from power pump and Brazilian dance to pilates and line dancing.

The centre’s general manager, Ella Gosden, said: “We‘re delighted to be re-launching the gym. We hope that the new-look gym will encourage more local residents to make use of the sporting and leisure facilities on offer. With gym memberships from as little as £19.95 per month there’s no excuse not to get active.”

Since the gym re-opened, 120 new members have joined.

Ella continued: “Even if you’ve never exercised before Leyton Gym offers a range of induction programmes that will help you get fit, meet new friends and have fun.”
