Come and celebrate Eid in style

Families and friends can look forward to free celebrations for Eid-ul-Fitr, which will take place on Friday 1 August at Walthamstow Assembly Hall in Forest Road E17 4JD.

Eid-ul-Fitr is a special day for the Muslim community because it signifies the end of Ramadan. This year, people can enjoy a fantastic evening of entertainment, including SK1, who performed recently at the Mela in June, a live Bollywood band and dancers. The fun will begin at 7pm, with doors opening early at 6.30pm.

Chris Robbins, Leader of the Council said:

“This Eid promises to be a great community event with an array of amazing entertainment and fun for all. As a diverse and multi-cultural borough, we welcome and look forward to everyone joining us in these festivities.”

The festival starts with the first official news of a sighting of the new moon seen in the sky, and the celebratory atmosphere is highlighted by Muslims dressing up in their best clothes and decorating their homes.

The event is a free ticketed event, with tickets available from libraries in the borough. There will be a maximum of five tickets per household and residents will need to show proof of address in Waltham Forest to be eligible.
