Business LaunchPad…launches

Waltham Forest Council’s Business Team and Waltham Forest College have come together to provide a helping hand for local businesses looking to get their venture up and running.

The Business LaunchPad is a brand new affordable shared office space in Waltham Forest College on Forest Road, Walthamstow, which is being managed by the Council’s Business team. It provides workspace for innovative and ambitious business start-ups to locate and grow at very affordable inclusive rates.

“It’s a real helping hand to new businesses in the borough,” said Councillor Clare Coghill, Waltham Forest Council’s Cabinet Member for Economic Growth and High Streets. “We appreciate that at first it can be hard to cover your costs, so hopefully this is just one of the things we can do to help create a pathway to success.”

Business start-ups have already begun to sign up, including Khyal Arts, run by Vanessa Downie. Vanessa, 40, described the Business Launchpad as, “the perfect environment in which to launch and grow Khyal Arts”.

Khyal Arts is a new social enterprise working to promote the Arts of Northern India, Bangladesh and Pakistan – predominantly music and dance. It is a non-profit organisation and community interest company with a vision to increase participation.

Vanessa went on to explain further why the Business Launchpad works for her. “Combining our creativity and innovative thinking with the business support, office and administrative services offered, this business space at the vibrant business hub will provide a sturdy foundation for the growth of our organisation.

“The Networking opportunities and access to others in similar positions and with a similar mind-set, will create a fertile ground for sharing learning and expertise whilst exchanging skills and collaborating.

“Furthermore, we will certainly exploit the opportunities presented through working in such close proximity to students. Being based here adds to the professional look and feel of the organisation, especially in terms of the strategic advantages of the college’s facilities, shared ethos, location in Walthamstow and access to private meeting spaces and event space that we will certainly utilise for events.

“We will also avail ourselves of the associated business training and forums, as part of our on-going journey of learning and development. Finally, the affordability of the space will allow us to benefit from the above without affecting cash flow.”

There are only four more spaces left at the Business LaunchPad so if you’re an interested start-up or new business email business.support@walthamforest.gov.uk for an application form and more information – now!
