Media invite: Waltham Forest Growth Commission launch event

What’s in a name? That was just one of the key questions to come from a new report produced to help Waltham Forest Council boost its economic growth.

The Waltham Forest Growth Commission, chaired by Professor Tony Travers, has spent the last six months gathering evidence and deliberating on how the Council, local businesses and other stakeholders can work together to secure economic growth and prosperity for the east London borough in the years ahead. And the area’s identity was just one of the topics discussed.

The Commission will publish its report on Tuesday 25 March from 6.30pm to 8.30pm at the William Morris Gallery in Walthamstow (Forest Rd, London E17 4PP) and we would be delighted if you could attend a reception to launch the report and hear more about the findings and recommendations.

The Commission’s recommendations will cover a wide range of issues, including the importance of the high street, skills and jobs, housing and land use, transport, business and how Waltham Forest can stand out in London.

Professor Travers, from the London School of Economics, said, “Waltham Forest is an important part of London’s multi-billion pound economy, with significant potential for future development. When measured against many inner and central London boroughs, Waltham Forest has a modestly-sized local economy. But as these inner and central parts of the city become more expensive and congested, there are significant economic opportunities for the borough.”

Chris Robbins, Leader of Waltham Forest Council, said, “We will do all we can to work with our partners to make Waltham Forest not only a place where our residents and businesses can prosper, but a place that we can all be proud of.”

There will be a chance to talk to members of the Commission, representatives from the Council and other key stakeholders and businesses about how the borough can progress its plans.

Please get in touch if you would like to read a full version of the report in advance of the launch event – hard copies will be available on the night.
