Buy It Local Events Celebrate Town Centres

A series of special Buy It Local events will take place this month to celebrate town centres in Waltham Forest and showcase the range of local retailers operating across the borough.

The events will take place across two weekends as follows:

Saturday, 15 November, 11am to 4pm

  • Highams Park

  • Leytonstone

  • Wood Street

Saturday 22 November, 11am to 4pm

  • Leyton

  • North Chingford

  • Walthamstow

Each event will feature entertainment for all the family including live music, children’s entertainers, face painters, stilt walkers and street dancers.

Chris Robbins, Leader of Waltham Forest Council said: “Our town centres have everything you need on your doorstep, from everyday essentials and skilled independent traders to produce from around the world. The Buy it Local events will celebrate our local retailers so come along and see all the things your local area has to offer.”

There will also be two special competitions open to local retailers across the borough during the events. On the first weekend florists are being challenged to create a Christmas themed arrangement that celebrates Waltham Forest. This will be judged on Saturday 15 November at 12.30pm at the Plaza in Wood Street.

On Saturday 22 November bakeries and coffee shops are encouraged to take part in a cupcake bake-off, by creating six shopping themed cupcakes that celebrate the borough. Judging will be at 12.30pm at Leyton Coronation Gardens.

Businesses that would like to get involved in the events can email business.support@walthamforest.gov.uk for more information.

The events are being held as part of the ‘Waltham Forest is London’ campaign, which was created by the Waltham Forest Council to celebrate life in the borough and to raise its profile in London. For more information about the campaign visit www.walthamforestlondon.co.uk.
