William Morris Gallery to host late night Christmas shopping

Beat the West End crowds and get a head start on your Christmas shopping at the William Morris Gallery’s first late night shopping event on Friday 21 November from 6pm to 9.30pm.

The William Morris Gallery’s shop, whose sales support a free exhibitions and events programme, will be specially decorated for the occasion and filled with seasonal gifts. The event, which has been sponsored by Waltham Forest Business Network, will also feature Christmas food, mulled wine and a free gallery trail to keep children entertained.

Taking centre stage will be a range of exclusive products inspired by the Gallery’s outstanding collection of arts and crafts designs. Scarves, jewellery, sketchbooks, cards and bookmarks will feature William Morris’s best loved patterns alongside lesser-known designs by designers such as John Henry Dearle, Charles Voysey and Walter Crane.

The Gallery will also be unveiling new products specially developed for its Christmas range, including gifts and decorations from independent designer-makers.

Cllr Chris Robbins, leader of Waltham Forest Council, which owns and runs the Gallery, said: “Not only does this late night shopping event give residents the chance to pick up perfect Christmas presents that aren’t on sale anywhere else, it also enables them to help support a fantastic, award-winning gallery, with all sales supporting future exhibitions and events.”

About the William Morris Gallery

The William Morris Gallery is the only public gallery devoted to William Morris: designer, craftsman and radical socialist. Housed in the grade II* listed building that was Morris's family home from 1848 to 1856, the Gallery reopened in August 2012 following a major redevelopment that attracted widespread public and press acclaim.

The Gallery, which is owned and run by Waltham Forest Council, is the Art Fund’s Museum of the Year 2013 and has been nominated for the European Museum of the Year Award 2014.

The Gallery is open Wednesday to Sunday, 10am - 5pm; admission is free.
