Free carol concerts to spread festive cheer

Christmas is just around the corner and once again Waltham Forest Council is busy organising a series of free carol concerts to help residents feel suitably festive.

Come along to the Coronation Gardens Carol Concert on Tuesday 8 December, 6.30pm to 7.30pm (Coronation Gardens, Leyton, E10 5NG), where you will be able to enjoy festive snacks and hot drinks while singing along to well-loved Christmas carols.

There are still places available at the Civic Carol Concert, which takes place at Walthamstow Assembly Hall (Town Hall Complex, Forest Road, E17 4JF) on Wednesday 9 December, from 7pm to 9pm – with doors opening at 6.30pm. You can join young people from the Waltham Forest Music Service, who will perform favourite carols interspersed with readings from the Christmas story.

The concert is free, but guests must register for tickets online as space is limited. To book your place visit http://civiccarolconcert.eventbrite.co.uk.

Elsewhere, there will be a variety of activities going on as part of Highams Park Christmas Fayre on Sunday 20 December. The event, which is run in partnership with The Highams Park Planning Group and takes place between 10am and 5pm, will feature a farmers market, arts and crafts, a torch lit Christmas cycle parade, community carols along with mulled wine and mince pies.

Finally, an evening to celebrate Hanukkah – the Jewish Festival of Light – will take place at Waltham Forest Town Hall (Forest Road, E17 4JF) on Sunday 13 December. The event, which runs from 4pm to 6pm, will see the eighth candle on the Hanukiah lit, and guests enjoying live klezmer music and kosher refreshments. Although it is free to attend, you must register in advance.

Council Leader Chris Robbins said: “Our free festive events are a great way, not only to get into the Christmas spirit, but also meet new people from all over the community. And, our Hanukkah celebration is open to all, whether you’re an annual guest or interested in experiencing it for the first time.”
