Outdoor gym muscles in on Priory Court

The residents of Priory Court in Walthamstow have received an early Christmas present with the installation of a new outdoor gym in the play area, courtesy of Waltham Forest Council.

The gym, which is free for anyone to use, is the latest addition made to the borough as part of the Council’s £1m fund for parks and play improvements that is improving 13 play areas and five open spaces in Waltham Forest.

Councillor Clyde Loakes, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Environment, said, “We have a number of outdoor gyms around the borough now and we know just how popular they are proving with residents.

“Improving our parks and play areas is a commitment we have made and spent considerable resources in seeing good on over a number of years, and I am confident this latest addition will be well-used by the residents of Priory Court.”

The gym cost £35,000 and was agreed by the Council in partnership with the Priory Court Estate Management Group, which confirmed that they wanted to have some outdoor gym equipment installed in the play area on the estate.

A public consultation was undertaken by the Council’s Parks Development Team at a community fun day on Priory Court Estate in the summer to establish which pieces of gym equipment people most wanted to have installed.
