Mini-Holland Programme wins 2015 London Cycling Award

‘Walthamstow
Village Mini-Holland trial improvements’ was named the winner in the Space for
Cycling category at the prestigious 2015 London Cycling Awards ceremony last
night, Monday 29 June.

Hosted
by Jeremy Vine, the ceremony celebrated the many businesses and
community groups working tirelessly to champion cycling in London.

The
award was determined by an expert panel with Waltham Forest’s Mini-Holland
Programme taking the honours.

Mini-Holland
was one of three finalists recognised by the London Cycling Campaign for
demonstrating innovation, long-term thinking and great design.

Councillor
Clyde Loakes, Deputy Leader of Waltham Forest Council and Cabinet
Member for Environment said the award is testament
to Mini-Holland’s ground-breaking plans and aims
.

“It is
a great honour to receive this significant award and be recognised by
industry leaders for our leadership and innovation in making cycling safer
and more accessible for our community.

“I’d
like to acknowledge and congratulate the hard working and dedicated Council
staff, community champions and project partners who have all contributed
towards this accolade.

“The
award-winning Mini-Holland Programme will transform our borough
by improving roads and town centres and making them enjoyable places to
live, work and travel through.

“Most
importantly the programme will have numerous health benefits to the people of
Waltham Forest, by reducing emissions and encouraging regular physical
activity."

In
September the Council will host two leading industry cycling events including
the 2015 London Cycling Show and inaugural National Cycling Planning Awards.

The
Mini-Holland Walthamstow Village scheme will officially open on Monday 14
September, marking a major stage in the three-year project.
