A series of completely free Summer Cycling School classes will be taking place in Waltham Forest this August, designed to help children gain more confidence on their bikes.

The courses range from half-day complete beginner sessions to four-day group training to help children looking to get into cycling as a sport.

Cllr Clyde Loakes, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Environment said: “Our free summer school programme will help children gain confidence when cycling and are also a great day out for families. We want to give as many people as possible the help and support they need so they can get out on their bikes around the borough. These classes are also a great way for kids to get active outdoors over the summer holiday.”

Community Outdoor Group (COG)Training is run in partnership with London Met Police and British Cycling, and is a weekly cycling group for children looking to get into cycling as a sport. The Council has teamed up with COG to provide four-day training sessions to teach braking, balancing and speed control skills that are ideal for track racing.

The next session runs from 8 to 11 August at Higham Hill Recreation Grounds, between 2.30pm and 4.30pm each day. The course is suitable for children aged 9 to 14. To register and find out more email
