Get ready for the Leyton Midsummer Festival

It’s now less than two weeks until Waltham Forest’s summer programme of fun, free and family-friendly events begins again – with Leyton the first stop.

Taking place on Sunday 19 June from 1pm to 6pm, the Leyton Midsummer Festival returns to Leyton Jubilee Park (Seymour Road, E10 7BL). Visitors can expect live music, delicious food and drink and a variety of family-friendly arts and craft activities.

An eclectic range of performers will take to the stage to wow the crowds. The entertainment will have an Eastern European flavour, and features acts such as Yiddish Twist Orchestra, Don Kipper, Katy Carr and The Aviators, Elena Dana and Gypsy Yaguri Fire, Muha  and DJ Penny Metal.

Meanwhile, kids can enjoy a Faery Den – making head-dresses, lanterns and puppets while hearing stories that weave magic and mystery from across the globe.

The day will also feature the annual Le Tour de Waltham Forest cycling event. Residents can choose to take to the borough’s streets by bike or on foot by taking part in free cycling rides or a geocaching walking tour. There are three different rides for cyclists to choose from, but you are encouraged to sign up today if you would like to take part, as places are limited.

Between June and September, residents will be able to soak up a party atmosphere at six epic community celebrations organised by Waltham Forest Council. Coming up there’s the Rio-themed Leyton Get Together on Sunday 3 July, the ever-popular Walthamstow Garden Party on Saturday 16 and Sunday 17 July, the Waltham Forest Mela on Sunday 31 July, the Chingford Get Together on Saturday 13 August and the Leytonstone Get Together on Sunday 4 September.

Council Leader, Chris Robbins, said: “Once again, we’ve got a fantastic programme of free summer events for residents to enjoy, and I hope to see as many people as possible taking part.”
