Designers and makers showcase unique Christmas gifts at Gallery night market

Walthamstow’s William Morris Gallery is to host a unique Christmas shopping event with gifts, accessories and homeware handmade by local designers.

The Christmas Night Market on Friday 25 November will feature more than 20 stalls run by members of the E17 Designers, a collective of designers and makers based in Walthamstow.

Products available on the night will include:

  • decorative and functional ceramics from Useful Pots and Linda Green

  • illustrations and prints from Karin Åkesson Design, Chris Walker, Ros Shiers, Phoebe Eason and Stork to Swan

  • jewellery from Malcolm Morris, Ellen Mair and Lauren Grace

  • screen printed t-shirts from Kindred and knitwear from Leena Charles Knitwear.

The night will also include the switch on of the William Morris Gallery Christmas tree, children’s activities, festive food and drink and the chance to view the gallery displays after hours.

Council Leader Chris Robbins said: “E17 Designers represents some of the most talented and original makers in Waltham Forest so it’s great that we can showcase their work at the William Morris Gallery. The one-off gifts, jewellery and accessories will make fantastic Christmas presents - it’s the perfect opportunity to support local craftspeople and have a festive evening out too.”

William Morris Gallery

The William Morris Gallery is the only public Gallery devoted to William Morris: designer, craftsman and radical socialist. Housed in the grade II* listed building that was Morris's family home from 1848 to 1856, the Gallery reopened in August 2012 following a major redevelopment that attracted widespread public and press acclaim.

Since its re-launch the Gallery has developed an ambitious contemporary programme, hosting Morris-inspired exhibitions by artists including Grayson Perry, Jeremy Deller, Yinka Shonibare and Bob and Roberta Smith.

The Gallery, which is owned and run by Waltham Forest Council, was awarded the Art Fund prize for Museum of the Year in 2013 and was nominated for the European Museum of the Year Award in 2014.
